  • A geometric border framing the scene
  • Fragments still useful to researchers

About this tour

This session moves through the Zeugma Mosaic Museum's strongest rooms, from its best known floor mosaic to a fully reassembled villa floor and a wall of smaller fragments. You see the fine detail of a well known face made from thousands of stone pieces, then a complete room floor with its geometric border, and finally fragments that still carry useful information despite the damage. Each stop adds to the story of how this collection was saved.

I begin with a sound check in front of the main mosaic, then we move room by room while you ask questions about the pieces. I slow down at the reconstructed floor, since the scale is easy to underestimate on camera. Afterwards I send a short written note on what we saw.

This suits anyone with a genuine interest in Roman art and archaeology rather than a quick overview. It also suits a traveller planning to see Zeugma's original site and wanting the background first.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Gaziantep before heading out.

  2. Gypsy Girl Mosaic 17 min

The camera holds on one of the museum's best known floor mosaics, a face made from thousands of small stone pieces. I explain how it was rescued before the site it came from was flooded.

  3. Villa Floor Reconstruction 17 min

You see a full room floor reassembled as it would have looked in a Roman villa. I point out the geometric border framing the central scene.

  4. Fragment Wall 17 min

The camera moves along a wall of smaller mosaic fragments too damaged to reconstruct fully. I explain what these pieces still tell researchers about the original villas.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Gaziantep: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Lahmacun and Şehitkamil, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Istanbul time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
