About this tour

This session covers the Aquarium of Genoa, the largest in Italy, from its main tank hall to a pool used for marine mammal research. You see the scale of the main tank, a reef display with specific species named, and the pool where conservation work takes place. Luca, a trained marine biologist who worked here, explains the science behind several of the exhibits.

He moves through the aquarium at a measured pace, giving each tank proper explanation rather than rushing past. He answers questions about the marine life throughout, drawing on his own years working there.

This suits anyone with a specific interest in marine biology or conservation. It works well as a longer, single session covering the aquarium properly.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Genoa before heading out.

  2. Main Tank Hall 17 min

Luca stands before the largest tank, explaining how the aquarium was built for the 1992 anniversary of Columbus's voyage.

  3. Coral Reef Display 17 min

Moving further in, the camera holds on a reef tank, with Luca naming a few of the species visible.

  4. Marine Mammal Pool 17 min

He finishes near the pool holding marine mammals, explaining the aquarium's role in conservation research.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Genoa: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pesto alla genovese and Boccadasse, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
