About this tour

This session walks Hill Street early in the morning, looking at the cafes that share this street with the Cathedral Quarter's better-known evening bars. You see a corner cafe window while the cobbles outside are still quiet, and buildings whose use shifts completely between day and night. Siobhan explains how this street supports two very different economies without much overlap between them.

After a short sound check at the corner cafe, the session moves along the cobbled street at an easy pace, with time for questions throughout. Siobhan answers as you go and sends a short list of her favourite morning spots afterwards.

It suits anyone who wants to see the Cathedral Quarter's quieter side, and works well as an early alternative to an evening session on the same street. It also appeals to coffee enthusiasts.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Belfast before heading out.

  2. A corner cafe window 15 min

The camera holds on a small cafe's window early in the morning, cobbles still quiet outside. Siobhan explains how Hill Street's cafes have grown up alongside the Cathedral Quarter's evening trade rather than competing with it.

  3. Cobbles and converted buildings 15 min

Further along, the camera takes in the cobbled street itself and buildings that switch use completely between day and night. Siobhan points out how the same doorway can lead to a cafe by day and a bar by night.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Belfast: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Irish stew and Queen's Quarter, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in London time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
