Fortica fortress at sunset
Highlights
- A Venetian fortress rebuilt in the 1550s
- Old cannon positions still in place
- The harbour and islands at sunset
- Hvar's layout explained from above
- An evening climb with a proper view
About this tour
This session climbs to Fortica, the Venetian fortress rebuilt in the 1550s on the hill above Hvar's old town, timed for sunset. You see the ramparts and old cannon positions still facing the harbour approach, then the view from the top as the light turns gold over the islands offshore. It is the clearest way to see how the whole town and harbour fit together.
We climb the path stop by stop, checking the connection partway up, and take questions throughout rather than only at the top. A short list of what is visible from the fortress follows once we finish.
It suits anyone who wants Hvar's layout explained from above before exploring at street level. It also suits an evening booking specifically, since the light is a large part of what this session shows.

The fortress walls 21 min
The camera follows the fortress ramparts, rebuilt by the Venetians in the 1550s, and I point out the cannon positions still facing the harbour approach.
-
The view at sunset 21 min
From the top I turn the phone slowly across the old town, the harbour and the Pakleni Islands as the light turns gold.

A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Gregada (fish and potato stew) and Grad, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
