About this tour

This session follows the Nordkette cable car line from the edge of Innsbruck up to the Karwendel ridge. You see the Hungerburg funicular station, the Seegrube plateau at 1,905 metres and the open ridge walk toward Hafelekar. It ends at a mountain hut terrace with Innsbruck laid out far below.

After a quick sound check the guide moves station by station up the mountain, pausing at each viewpoint so you can look around before the next stage. You can ask questions about the cable cars, the building or the route at any point. A short list of hut names and trail options follows by message.

This suits anyone weighing up whether the ridge walk is manageable, or who wants to see the view before deciding to book the cable car themselves. It also works for former visitors keen to see how the top station looks now.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Innsbruck before heading out.

  2. Hungerburg funicular station 21 min

The camera lingers on the curved white shell of the Hungerburg station, one of four Zaha Hadid designed for this line. The guide explains why she shaped it like a glacier tongue rather than a box.

  3. Seegrube plateau 21 min

At 1,905 metres the camera turns from the cable car platform out over Innsbruck and the Inn valley. The guide points out the Hafelekar ridge above and the next cable car that climbs to it.

  4. Hafelekar ridge 21 min

From the ridge at the top station the camera follows an easy gravel path used by walkers rather than climbers. The guide points south toward the peaks on the Italian border and names the nearest summits.

  5. Mountain hut terrace 21 min

On the terrace of a mountain hut the camera shows plates of Kaspressknödel, fried cheese dumplings, going out to hikers. The guide explains the dish and how huts like this restock by cable car.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Innsbruck: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tiroler Gröstl and Altstadt, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Vienna time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
