About this tour

This session crosses to the Asian side by ferry and walks the market streets of Kadıköy, from stalls selling midye dolma and kokoreç to a wood oven turning out lahmacun. It finishes with künefe and Turkish coffee explained by the people who make them. The camera follows a route built entirely around Kadıköy's food stalls and lanes.

The call opens with a sound check on the ferry, then works through the market stop by stop as the evening gets busier, taking questions along the way. A short list of dishes and stalls is sent once the call ends.

This suits anyone interested in Turkish street food or markets away from the main tourist side of the city. It also suits former visitors who remember Kadıköy and want to see it again.

Included

  • Live video session with a local guide
  • A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
  • A short list of places and dishes to try later

Not included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Istanbul before heading out.

  2. Ferry to Kadıköy 21 min

On the ferry crossing the Bosphorus, the camera looks back at the Sultanahmet skyline while the guide points out simit sellers and tea glasses balanced on deck trays, a familiar start to any trip to the Asian side.

  3. Kadıköy market streets 21 min

Walking into Kadıköy's market streets, the camera passes fishmongers, spice sellers and narrow lanes busy with shoppers, and the guide explains what sets this side of the city apart from Sultanahmet.

  4. A midye dolma stall 21 min

At a stall selling midye dolma and kokoreç, the camera watches the vendor work quickly through the evening rush, and the guide explains the pickle juice served alongside and why it is such a Kadıköy tradition.

  5. Lahmacun and künefe 21 min

At a wood oven turning out lahmacun, the camera follows the dough from the fire to the counter, and the guide finishes at a nearby counter making künefe and pouring Turkish coffee, explaining how each is properly made.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Istanbul: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Turkish tea (çay) and Kadıköy, worth a slower look.

  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
