Kumkapı's fish restaurant street
Highlights
- A street of fish restaurants
- Families serving the same street for decades
- A small market feeding the kitchens
- How one street became known for fish
- Kumkapı's food culture, explained
About this tour
This session walks Kumkapı's narrow restaurant street, lined almost entirely with fish restaurants, ending at the small market that supplies many of them. You see which restaurants have served the same families for decades and how closely the market and the kitchens are connected. Burcu, who grew up nearby, explains how this specific street became known for fish in the first place.
The call opens with a sound check at the top of the street, then moves down toward the market. Burcu answers questions about specific restaurants and sends a short note afterwards on the street's history.
This suits anyone curious about Istanbul's food culture beyond its more famous markets. It also pairs well with the Yedikule Fortress session nearby.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
