Kemeraltı Bazaar: the alleys behind the stalls
Highlights
- Kemeraltı's covered market lanes
- A quieter alley most visitors miss
- Spices, copperware and dried fruit
- Trades that shifted corners over time
- A bazaar worker's honest view
About this tour
This session moves through Kemeraltı Bazaar, from its busiest covered lane to a quieter side alley most visitors never find. You see stalls of spices, dried fruit and copperware, and the older trades that have shifted to less visible corners. Yusuf, who has worked in the bazaar since he left school, explains how the layout has changed over the years.
The call opens with a sound check at the bazaar entrance, then follows the main lane before turning down the quieter alley. Yusuf answers questions about specific stalls as they pass and sends a short note afterwards on what each street used to specialise in.
This suits anyone who wants Izmir's everyday commercial life rather than only its monuments. It also works well as a first stop before a session focused on one particular craft.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
