About this tour
This session climbs to Jvari Monastery above Mtskheta and settles on the terrace where the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers meet in two colours below. You see the sixth-century church up close, then the valley opens out toward Svetitskhoveli Cathedral on the far bank. It is the view every visitor to Georgia's old capital eventually climbs up to find.
We start with a short sound check on the hilltop, since the wind up there can be strong, then I walk the church wall by wall before we settle at the confluence for the rest of the call. You can ask questions the whole way, and I send a short list of the sites we covered once we finish.
This suits anyone curious about early Georgian Christianity or the geography that shaped the old capital. It also works well as a first look at Mtskheta before a longer trip through Kartli.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Mtskheta before heading out.
-
Jvari Monastery courtyard 17 min
You see the small cross-shaped 6th-century church up close, its bare stone walls carved with vine patterns, and I point out the inscription believed to name the architect.
-
The confluence viewpoint 17 min
From the terrace beside the church you look straight down at the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers meeting in two different colours, the sight that inspired Lermontov's poem about a novice monk.
-
Old Mtskheta from above 17 min
The camera pans across the valley to Svetitskhoveli Cathedral's dome below, and I explain how the two sites have faced each other across the river for fifteen centuries.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Mtskheta: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Khachapuri and Old Mtskheta, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
