About this tour

This session frames Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum from across its park before moving in on the carved detail around the main entrance. You see the building's full red sandstone facade and mirrored towers, then the ornate stonework around its free entrance. Aileen explains the mix of styles that shaped the building for the 1901 exhibition.

After a short sound check in the park, the session moves steadily closer to the building over the course of the walk, with questions welcomed throughout. Aileen answers as you go and sends a short note afterwards on which galleries inside are worth the most time.

It suits anyone planning a visit who wants a preview of the building itself, and works well for those who love architecture as much as collections. It also appeals to families deciding whether to visit.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Glasgow before heading out.

  2. The Kelvingrove Park view 15 min

The camera frames the museum's full red sandstone facade from across the park, its towers rising above the trees. Aileen points out the building's mirrored wings, built for the 1901 exhibition.

  3. The main entrance detail 15 min

Moving closer, the camera holds on the carved stonework around the main doors, free to enter for anyone. Aileen explains the building's mix of Spanish Baroque and Glasgow Style influences.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Glasgow: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tunnock's teacake and Merchant City, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in London time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
