Kilkenny by the Nore
Highlights
- A riverside path south of the castle
- Herons fishing the Nore at dawn
- Nineteenth-century parkland by the water
- A bridge linking the city for centuries
- A quiet morning outdoors in Kilkenny
About this tour
This session follows the River Nore through Kilkenny at a quiet morning pace, from a riverside park south of the centre to the bridge that has linked the city's two halves for generations. You see the wooded castle grounds from the water's edge and the wildlife that uses the river each morning. It stays outdoors throughout and moves slowly enough to take in the setting properly.
We begin with a brief sound check by the water, then follow the path stop by stop with time to look and listen before I explain what you are seeing. I answer questions as they come rather than rushing the walk, and afterwards I send a short note on the river's history through the town.
It suits anyone who prefers a calmer, outdoor session over a dense historical walk, and anyone curious about Kilkenny beyond its buildings.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Kilkenny before heading out.
-
Nore Linear Park 21 min
The camera follows the riverside path south of the centre, and I point out the herons that fish the shallows most mornings and the way the path was laid along an old mill race.
-
Castle riverside grounds 21 min
You see the wooded parkland below Kilkenny Castle from the water's edge, and I explain how the grounds were laid out for the Butler family in the nineteenth century.
-
John's Bridge 21 min
The session closes on the bridge itself, where the camera frames the castle upstream, and I describe how this crossing has linked the two halves of the city for centuries.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Kilkenny: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Brown soda bread and Irishtown, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Dublin time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
