Killarney National Park and its red deer
Highlights
- Ireland's largest native oak woodland
- The country's only native red deer herd
- A quiet early-morning walk in the park
- Where woodland meets the lake
- Habitat found nowhere else in Ireland
About this tour
This early session moves through Killarney National Park's old oak woodland to see its native red deer at a respectful distance, before finishing where the trees meet the lake. You see habitat that has survived largely untouched for centuries and the animals that depend on it. It stays quiet and slow throughout, timed for when the deer are easiest to see.
After a short sound check under the trees, I move stop by stop, letting the woodland and the animals hold the screen before I explain what makes them significant. I take questions live as they come and send a short note afterwards on the park's other wildlife for anyone who wants to explore further.
It suits anyone interested in wildlife and native woodland, and early risers who want the calmest part of the day in the park.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
