The gold hoard and the Urban Tower, on camera
Highlights
- Nearly three thousand gold coins, found by chance
- A hoard sealed inside a house wall
- Medieval bronze bells salvaged after fire damage
- A rebuilt tower with an unusual history
- Two lesser-known stops in one short session
About this tour
This session covers two of Košice's lesser-known history stops, the East Slovak Museum and the Urban Tower. You see the museum building from outside and hear the story of the gold coin hoard found sealed inside a house wall, then move to the rebuilt bell tower and its salvaged medieval bells. It is a short session built around two genuine surprises in the old town.
I keep the pace steady between the two stops, since they sit only a short distance apart. I take questions on the gold hoard in particular, since it is the part most viewers ask about. A short note on where to see photographs of the coins follows afterwards.
This suits anyone who likes an unusual local story rather than the obvious cathedral visit. It also works well as a short add-on before or after a longer old town session.
Included

You see the museum building from outside, and I explain how nearly three thousand gold coins were found sealed inside a house wall in 1935.

-
A short list to keep 4 min

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
