The old city walls, gate to gate
Highlights
- A surviving fragment of the old walls
- The last gate left standing
- A defensive ring, mostly dismantled
- Nineteenth-century decisions, still visible
- What remains of Krakow's fortifications
About this tour
This session follows a surviving fragment of Krakow's old city walls to the Florianska Gate, the only gate left standing after most of the fortifications came down in the nineteenth century. You see the wall fragment first, then the gate that once connected to it. It is a look at what remains of a defensive ring that once fully encircled the old town.
We start at the wall fragment with a short sound check, then walk to the gate to see the connection between them. I explain why most of the walls were removed as we go, taking questions throughout. A written list of what survives follows afterwards.
It suits anyone who has already seen the Barbican and wants the fuller picture of the old defences. It also pairs well with a session on the Planty park that replaced the walls.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
