Wawel Castle: kings and courtyards
Highlights
- Wawel Hill's defensive position, explained
- A Renaissance courtyard's arcaded galleries
- Centuries of building, read in the stonework
- Kings who shaped a single hill
- Wawel's history, courtyard by courtyard
About this tour
This session covers Wawel Hill from its main gate to the Renaissance courtyard at the castle's centre and the outer walls beyond it. You see the hill's defensive position, the arcaded galleries added in the sixteenth century, and the different building phases visible in the stonework. It is a close look at centuries of royal building on a single hill.
We begin at the gate with a short sound check, then move to the courtyard and finally the outer walls, pausing at each to explain the building history. I take questions throughout and connect specific details to the kings who commissioned them. A written list of the phases follows afterwards.
It suits anyone with a serious interest in Polish royal history and architecture. It also pairs well with the cathedral session for the fuller picture of the hill.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
