The morning catch at Lagos harbour, on camera
Highlights
- Boats unloading at first light
- Species typical of this coastline
- Fish sorted and weighed before market
- A fisherman's own view of the quay
- Where Lagos' seafood really starts
About this tour
This session shows the morning catch coming into Lagos harbour, filmed along the quay where the boats unload before the town wakes up properly. You see the boats themselves, then the sorting and weighing that happens before the fish moves on to markets and restaurants. I worked on a fishing boat out of this harbour before guiding, so the routine is one I know well.
We start with a sound check on the quay, then move to the sorting area for the second stop, taking your questions about the catch and the boats as we go. I send a short list of what was landed that morning once the session ends.
It suits anyone curious about where Lagos' seafood actually starts, shown honestly rather than staged for visitors. Nothing from the catch is sent or delivered to you afterwards; it is a look at the process only.
Included
- Live video session with a local guide
- A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
- A short list of places and dishes to try later
Not included
- Food and drinks shown on camera
- Travel to the city
Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Lagos before heading out.
-
The quay 15 min
The camera shows the boats unloading their catch along the quay, and I explain which species are typical for this stretch of the Algarve coast.
-
The fish auction 15 min
We move to where the day's catch gets sorted and weighed, and I point out how prices are set before the fish even reaches a market stall.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Lagos: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Percebes (goose barnacles) and Old Town, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.
Questions about this tour

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
