Inside the Church of Saint Lazarus
Highlights
- A tomb linked to Lazarus of Bethany
- Byzantine architecture, still active
- A childhood spent at this church
- A saint's day procession, described
- Respect kept for an active space
About this tour
This session walks the interior and courtyard of the Church of Saint Lazarus, a Byzantine-era building said to hold the tomb of Lazarus after his arrival in Cyprus. You see the church from someone baptised and raised attending services there. It stays respectful of an active place of worship throughout.
I keep the phone steady inside, lowering my voice whenever a service is underway, then step into the courtyard to talk more freely about the building's history. Questions are welcome throughout.
This suits anyone interested in Byzantine architecture or religious history. It also pairs well with the fort session for a fuller old town picture.

Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
