About this tour
This session covers Lausanne Cathedral from its carved west front to the tower where a night watchman still calls the hours, a tradition unbroken since the 15th century. You see the portal figures, the Gothic nave and rose window inside, and the tower itself explained from below. Julien, who teaches history nearby, treats the watchman's tradition as the session's central thread.
He starts outside with the facade before moving into the nave, giving the architecture time to be read properly. He returns to the watchman's tradition at the end, tying the building's history to a practice still running today.
This suits anyone interested in Gothic architecture or unusual living traditions. It works well as a longer, single session covering the cathedral properly.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
