About this tour

This session follows the story of Polish cinema through the streets around the Lodz Film School and the Museum of Cinematography inside Poznanski Palace. You see the school building where major directors studied, the palace courtyard from an angle a quick pass would miss, and the museum's front steps where I talk through a few pieces from the collection. It is a close look at how one city became the centre of an entire national cinema.

We begin at the school with a short sound check, then move stop by stop toward the museum, pausing at each building long enough to actually take it in. I take questions throughout and connect what you see to specific films where I can. A written list of the directors and films mentioned follows afterwards.

It suits anyone with an interest in film history or Polish cinema specifically. It also works well paired with a session on the city's mural trail for a fuller sense of Lodz's creative side.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Lodz before heading out.

  2. Lodz Film School building 21 min

We start outside the film school itself, and I point out the plaque naming some of the directors who studied here, including Polanski and Wajda, before explaining why Lodz became the centre of Polish cinema.

  3. Poznanski Palace courtyard 21 min

The camera moves to the palace courtyard that now houses the Museum of Cinematography, and you see the building from an angle most visitors miss on a quick pass.

  4. Museum of Cinematography facade 21 min

From the museum's front steps, I explain a few pieces from the collection inside, including early cameras and props from well-known Polish productions.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Lodz: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bigos and Widzew, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Warsaw time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
