About this tour

This session traces the Poznanski family's textile empire, from the ornate palace they built for themselves to the converted mill halls of Manufaktura next door. You see the original red-brick factory buildings up close, the surviving ironwork inside them, and the old water tower that once served the whole complex. It is a close look at the fortune and the factory that built this part of Lodz.

We begin outside the palace with a short sound check, then walk through to the factory grounds stop by stop, pausing wherever a detail is worth a longer look. I answer questions as we go rather than saving them for the end, and a written list of what we covered follows afterwards.

It suits anyone interested in nineteenth-century industrial fortunes and how a single family shaped a whole district. It also pairs well with a session on Lodz's film history for a fuller picture of the city.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Lodz before heading out.

  2. Poznanski Palace 17 min

The session opens outside the ornate former residence of textile magnate Izrael Poznanski, and I explain how a single family's fortune shaped so much of this part of the city.

  3. Manufaktura's old mill halls 17 min

We move into the converted factory grounds next door, where the original red-brick mill buildings now hold shops and a cinema, and you see how much of the original ironwork survived.

  4. Water tower view 17 min

From a courtyard near the old water tower, the camera looks back across the whole complex, and I point out the chimney that once marked the factory's working hours.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Lodz: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Zurek and Baluty, worth a slower look.

  • Times are shown in Warsaw time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
