About this tour
This session covers the Houses of Parliament and its clock tower from Westminster Bridge, the best public vantage point for the whole facade. It covers the fire that destroyed the earlier palace and the naming confusion between the tower and its bell. It draws on two decades spent working in the surrounding government offices.
We start with a wide view of the whole building, then move closer on the clock tower for the naming story. Questions about the building's function and its history come up steadily, and I answer with the kind of detail a former civil servant picks up simply by working nearby. I close with a note on the best times of day for photographs.
It suits first-time visitors wanting the essentials explained clearly. It also suits anyone curious about a well-known naming mix-up they may have wondered about before.

Bridge vantage point 15 min
The camera holds on the full length of the Houses of Parliament from the bridge, and I explain how the current building replaced an earlier palace destroyed by fire in 1834.

Elizabeth Tower close-up 15 min
Zooming towards the clock tower, I explain how the bell inside is what is technically named Big Ben, a name popularly applied to the whole tower instead.

-
A short list to keep 3 min

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
