Bastions and trees atop the ramparts
Highlights
- Plane trees along a military wall
- A bastion turned into parkland
- Earthworks planted over with green
- A fortification used for leisure now
- A slow walk under a tree canopy
About this tour
This session looks at the walls of Lucca specifically as a green space rather than a fortification. You see the dense canopy of plane trees lining the path, and a bastion now planted over with grass and trees. The camera moves slowly under the shade throughout.
We keep the pace relaxed here, since the point is the greenery rather than covering distance. I explain when and why the walls were replanted as a park, and take questions as we move between bastions.
It suits anyone who wants a calmer, more natural side of Lucca. It also works well as a shorter alternative to the full wall circuit.

Tree canopy 21 min
The camera moves under a dense canopy of plane trees planted along the ramparts, and I explain when the walls were first turned into a public park.
-
Bastion garden 21 min
At one bastion, I point out how each mound was later planted over, turning military earthworks into a quiet green space above the town.

Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Lucca: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Zuppa di farro (farro soup) and San Frediano, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
