Chamberí's ghost metro station, from the street
Highlights
- A station closed since the 1960s
- An entrance preserved instead of removed
- Platforms described from old photographs
- Trains still passing beneath, unstopped
- A piece of transport history, explained
About this tour
This session covers Chamberí's disused metro station from street level, since the closed platforms themselves are only viewable on a separate museum visit. You see the original surface entrance, unused since the 1960s, and learn what happened to the station instead of demolition. I describe the preserved platforms from photographs while the camera stays outside.
We stay on the street for the whole session, since that is genuinely as far as the camera can go here. I explain the station's history and how it came to be preserved rather than removed. Questions about the wider metro system's history come up regularly.
This suits anyone with a specific interest in transport history or abandoned infrastructure. It also works as background before a museum visit of your own.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Madrid before heading out.
-
The station's surface entrance 15 min
The original tiled entrance survives above ground, closed since the 1960s when the platforms became too short for longer trains. I explain what happened to the station after it closed rather than being demolished.
-
The street above the tunnels 15 min
Modern trains still pass beneath this street without stopping, and I explain how the closed platforms were eventually preserved as a small museum you can visit separately. I describe what the platforms look like inside from photographs, since the camera stays on the street.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Madrid: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Churros con chocolate and Chueca, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 7 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
