About this tour

This is a planning call about Madrid's three big art museums rather than a walk past any of them. I talk through what each collection is known for and how the three sit close enough to combine in one day. You leave with a route built around what actually interests you.

We start with which period or style you care about most, then I map the order and pacing from there. I answer questions about specific painters and rooms as they come up rather than working through a script. At the end I send over the route with notes on each stop.

This suits anyone planning a museum day in Madrid who wants a local's read on the order and pacing. It also suits viewers who cannot visit but want a proper sense of what each collection holds.

  • Honest tips on where to eat, stay and what to skip

Itinerary

  1. Hello, and what you want to know 5 min

The guide calls you and asks what you are after: planning Madrid, recommendations, or just questions.

  2. Planning your art route 15 min

I talk through how the Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen-Bornemisza sit close enough to walk between in one day, and which order makes the most sense depending on what you care about most. You tell me your interests and I build a route around them.

  3. What each collection is known for 15 min

I go through what makes each museum distinct, the Prado's old masters, the Reina Sofía's modern and contemporary work, and the Thyssen's private collection spanning centuries. I answer questions about specific painters as they come up.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Ask anything that is still on your mind, there is no fixed script.

  5. A written note after the call 3 min

You get a short follow-up message with everything mentioned, so you do not have to remember it all.

Good to know

  • A stable phone or internet connection, whichever the guide uses to reach you.
  • No app to install. You answer when the guide calls, or join a video call if you would rather.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The call is not recorded. Keep your own note of anything you want to remember, or wait for the follow-up message.
  • Have your questions ready, though there is time to think of more as you go.

Questions about this tour

The guide talks you through Madrid: where to go, what to eat, and answers to whatever you ask.

What happens if the call drops?

The guide will try you again straight away.

Can I ask the guide questions during the session, or is it a fixed script?

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
