About this tour

This session walks Retiro Park early in the morning before the heat and the crowds, from the Crystal Palace to the Fallen Angel statue and the rose garden. It ends inside the tropical garden built into Atocha station. You see Madrid's green centre at its quietest hour.

The guide opens with a sound check, then walks the park stop by stop, timing the route to stay ahead of the heat. Questions come in as the walk goes, and a short list of what was seen follows by message afterwards.

This suits early risers and anyone who prefers a park without the crowds. It also suits viewers planning a Madrid trip who want to time their own visit well.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Madrid before heading out.

  2. Retiro Park, early morning 21 min

The camera walks into Retiro Park before the crowds and the midday heat arrive. The guide points out how different the park feels this early, with only joggers and the occasional gardener around.

  3. Crystal Palace 21 min

At the Crystal Palace, the camera takes in the glass and iron structure beside its lake. The guide walks on to the nearby Velázquez Palace, explaining what both buildings were originally built to display.

  4. Fallen Angel and rose garden 21 min

The guide stops at the Fallen Angel statue, pointing out its unusual claim as one of the few public statues of Lucifer, then walks into the rose garden, best in May and June when it is fullest.

  5. Atocha station tropical garden 21 min

The walk ends inside Atocha station, where the camera pans across the tropical garden planted in the old train hall. The guide explains how a working station came to hold a garden of this size.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Madrid: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Churros con chocolate and Malasaña, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
