  • A quieter side of a famous building

About this tour

This session covers the Sabatini Gardens on the Royal Palace's north side, a quieter approach that most visitors miss entirely. You see the formal hedges and fountains built on the site of the old royal stables, and the palace itself from an angle rarely photographed. It is a calmer, greener way to see a very well-known building.

We move through the garden at an unhurried pace, since the geometric layout rewards a careful look rather than a quick pass. I explain how the space changed use over the twentieth century before reaching its current form. Questions about the palace's architecture come up as we frame it through the hedges.

This suits anyone who has already seen the main palace facade and wants a different angle on the same building. It also works well as a quieter finish after a busier session in the old town.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Madrid before heading out.

  2. The formal garden beds 21 min

Geometric hedges and fountains fill the garden, built on the site of former royal stables. I explain how the space changed use across the twentieth century before becoming a public garden.

  3. The northern palace facade 21 min

From here you see the palace from an angle most visitors miss, framed by the garden's hedges in the foreground. I point out architectural details on this side that differ from the main entrance facade.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Madrid: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Callos a la madrileña and La Latina, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 7 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
