A clifftop path along the Calanques
Highlights
- Limestone cliffs dropping into blue water
- An inlet with visible clear seabed
- Wind-shaped pines on an exposed ridge
- The Calanques, seen on foot
- A coastline usually viewed from a boat
About this tour
This session follows a clifftop path at the edge of the Calanques, looking down into the narrow limestone inlets and along a ridge of wind-shaped pines. You see the clearest water most people only see from a boat, and the distant city behind you. It is a slower, outdoor session built around a single stretch of coastline.
We move at walking pace along the path, stopping longer wherever the drop or the water is worth it. Questions come in throughout, since the geology and the view both invite them. A short note on the walk follows the call.
This suits anyone who prefers open air and sea views to museums and squares. It also rewards a slightly longer attention span, since the path takes real time to cover.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later
Not included
- Internet connection
- Travel to the city
Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Marseille before heading out.
-
The clifftop path 21 min
The camera follows a narrow path along the clifftop, with the white limestone dropping straight into blue water below. I point out how the rock's colour changes where the sea has worn it smoothest.
-
A calanque inlet 21 min
You look down into one of the narrow inlets that give the park its name, water so clear the seabed is visible from the top. I explain how these inlets were carved by rivers long before the sea level rose to meet them.
-
The pine-scattered ridge 21 min
Further along, the camera passes a ridge of umbrella pines twisted by the wind, with the city visible in the distance behind you. I point out how little vegetation survives on the exposed side of the ridge.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Marseille: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pastis and Vieux-Port, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
