About this tour

This walk follows La Corniche, the long seafront road built out over the water during the nineteenth century, down to the tiny fishing cove at Vallon des Auffes and on to a sunset viewpoint. You see boats packed into a working harbour barely changed by the city growing around it. It is a coastal session built around light and water rather than streets and buildings.

We move at an easy pace along the path, pausing longest at the bridge above the cove. Questions come in throughout, and I will hold on any view someone wants a longer look at. A short note on the route follows the call.

This suits anyone who wants sea air and open views rather than a packed itinerary. It also works particularly well at the time of day it is scheduled, as the light changes.

Included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Marseille before heading out.

  2. The seafront path 17 min

The camera follows the long seafront path along La Corniche, waves breaking against the rocks just below the railing. I point out how the road was built out over the water in sections during the nineteenth century.

  3. Vallon des Auffes viewpoint 17 min

From a bridge above the tiny fishing cove, you look down on boats packed into a space barely wide enough for them. I explain why the cove has stayed a working harbour despite the city growing up around it.

  4. The statue at the point 17 min

The walk ends near a monument facing out to sea, a popular spot for watching the sunset. I point out which direction the light falls through the different seasons.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Marseille: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bouillabaisse and Le Panier, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 11 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
