The imperial mosque and the old riverside inn
Highlights
- A sixteenth-century mosque, explained in detail
- Carved stonework most visitors walk past
- Where traders once rested before the bazaar
- Ottoman Mostar beyond the famous bridge
- A quieter side of the old riverside
About this tour
This session moves from one of Mostar's grandest mosques to the quiet riverside spot where traders once stopped before crossing into the bazaar. You see the mosque's carved stone entrance and its courtyard, then the site of a caravanserai that no longer stands but still shapes how this stretch of the river is used. It stays away from the main bridge throughout.
I spend real time on the stonework at the mosque, since the carving rewards a closer look than most visitors give it, then move at an easier pace along the river. Questions about either Ottoman building are welcome throughout.
This suits anyone who wants Mostar's Ottoman history explained beyond the one bridge everyone already knows. It also suits anyone curious about how trade actually moved through this city centuries ago.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
