Feldherrnhalle, two chapters of history
Highlights
- A loggia modelled on a Florentine original
- Nineteenth-century honours, twentieth-century history
- One square, two chapters explained
- Careful, factual context on a hard subject
- History that resists a single story
About this tour
This session looks at the Feldherrnhalle and the square in front of it, a monument that carries two very different chapters of history. You see the nineteenth-century loggia built to honour military commanders and hear about the events of 1923 that later attached a darker meaning to the same spot. It stays factual rather than dwelling on either chapter alone.
I keep this session measured and careful, explaining both periods clearly rather than rushing past either one. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short note afterwards with dates for anyone who wants to read further.
This suits anyone interested in twentieth-century history who wants context rather than a simplified story. It also pairs well with the White Rose session for a fuller sense of the era.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Munich before heading out.
-
Feldherrnhalle Facade 15 min
You see the open loggia modelled on a Florentine original, built in the nineteenth century to honour Bavarian military commanders.
-
Odeonsplatz 15 min
From the square in front, I explain the events of 1923 that later turned this spot into a site the regime tried to mythologise.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Munich: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) and Altstadt, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Berlin time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
