Catacombs of San Gennaro, from the entrance courtyard
Highlights
- An early Christian complex beneath a district
- A courtyard above centuries of history
- A neighbourhood built over something older
- Detail most visitors never get explained
- Background before seeing the galleries yourself
About this tour
This session stays in the entrance courtyard above the Catacombs of San Gennaro, describing the early Christian burial complex that runs beneath the Sanità district. You see the plain courtyard and the streets that grew up above a site far older than they are. It works as a detailed introduction rather than a tour of the underground galleries themselves.
I stand in the courtyard and explain the site's history and scale in detail, taking questions throughout, since viewers usually have more of these here than at better-known monuments. I send a short note afterwards for anyone planning a visit of their own.
This suits anyone curious about early Christian history in Naples. It also works well as background before a visit to the site itself.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

- A short list of places to visit later

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
