About this tour

This session opens in Praza do Obradoiro, the square where pilgrims arrive after the Camino, and looks at the cathedral's Baroque facade and the buildings that face it. You see the towers added long after the original church and the former pilgrim hospital across the square. Uxía explains how the square's four sides each tell a different part of the city's story.

The walk stays largely in one spot, turning slowly between the cathedral, the university, the old hospital and the town hall that share the square, with Uxía timing the session for whenever the light on the granite looks best. She lets the arrival of real pilgrims in the background speak for itself.

This suits anyone who wants to understand the emotional weight of this square before or instead of walking the Camino themselves. It also works well as a first stop before Uxía's longer cathedral session.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Santiago de Compostela before heading out.

  2. Praza do Obradoiro arrival 17 min

The camera stands where pilgrims arrive after weeks of walking, the granite square opening out in front of the cathedral's Baroque west facade.

  3. Cathedral towers 17 min

I look up at the twin bell towers added centuries after the original Romanesque church, and explain how the facade we see today covers an older building underneath.

  4. Hostal dos Reis Católicos 17 min

Across the square, the former royal hospital for pilgrims, now a hotel, shows its own carved doorway. I explain why it was built here, facing the cathedral directly.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Santiago de Compostela: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pulpo á feira and Casco Histórico, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
