What the lake sends to the table
Highlights
- A trout found almost nowhere else
- Restaurant terraces along the water
- What depends on the lake, not the land
- Bazaar produce from the surrounding hills
- Eating with a better sense of the lake
About this tour
This session follows what Ohrid's lake and hills actually put on a plate. You see restaurant terraces preparing the lake's own trout, then bazaar stalls selling produce from the surrounding hills. It stays close to the water throughout.
I explain the trout's unusual status first, since it is genuinely rare beyond this lake, then move to the bazaar stalls and what actually depends on the water rather than the land. Questions are welcome throughout.
This suits anyone who wants to eat with more understanding of where the food actually comes from. It also suits anyone curious about this lake's unusual ecology through its food.
Included
- Live video session with a local guide
- A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
- A short list of places and dishes to try later
Not included

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Ohrid before heading out.
-
Lakeside Trout Restaurants 21 min
You see restaurant terraces along the water preparing the lake's own trout, and I explain why this particular species is found only here and in a handful of other lakes nearby.
-
Old Bazaar Food Stalls 21 min
The camera reaches stalls in the old bazaar selling produce and preserves from the hills around the lake, and I point out which items actually depend on the lake itself rather than the surrounding farmland.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Ohrid: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Rakija and Kaneo, worth a slower look.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
