Holmenkollen's ski jump, and the view behind it
Highlights
- A ski jump hill used since 1892
- A view across Oslo to the fjord
- A tower rebuilt several times over
- Trails used on competition day
- Oslo's clearest view of its own skyline
About this tour
This session films the Holmenkollen Ski Jump from its base and viewing platform, on the wooded hill above the city where Oslo has held ski jumping since the 1890s. You see the tower's current structure and the view it gives back across the fjord. Sindre explains how the hill has been rebuilt several times over more than a century.
He spends longest at the viewing platform, since the skyline changes with the light and questions about specific buildings come up naturally from there. The walk down covers the trails Sindre uses himself outside of guiding.
This suits anyone interested in the city's relationship with winter sport rather than skiing itself. It works well paired with Sindre's shorter call about the walking loop at Sognsvann.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Oslo before heading out.
-
Ski jump tower 21 min
The camera looks up at the jump tower from its base, and I explain how the current structure replaced an older wooden one that had stood on the same hill since 1892.
-
City and fjord view 21 min
From the viewing platform you see across Oslo to the fjord beyond, and I point out landmarks in the skyline while talking through what a competition day here looks like.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Oslo: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Salmon (laks) and Grünerløkka, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Oslo time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
