The Opera House roof, climbed on camera
Highlights
- A rooftop you can walk to the top
- Marble slabs rising straight from the fjord
- A foyer wall built entirely of glass
- An oak-panelled auditorium, seen from outside
- A building shaped like a tilting iceberg
About this tour
This session climbs the Oslo Opera House's sloped marble roof and looks in through its glass foyer wall, on the waterfront where the building meets the fjord directly. You see the roof's incline up close, and the auditorium's shape from outside. Magnus explains the choice to make a public building this open to walk over.
He moves at an easy pace up the slabs, adjusting the route depending on the wind and how busy the roof is that day. Questions about the building's construction come up often, and he answers them as he films the different angles.
This suits anyone interested in architecture rather than opera itself. It pairs well with a longer look at Tjuvholmen's waterfront just along the water.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Oslo before heading out.
-
Sloped marble roof 21 min
The camera climbs the white marble slabs that rise straight from the fjord into a public roof, and I explain why the architects designed it so anyone could walk to the top for free.
-
Fjord-side foyer wall 21 min
From outside the tall glass wall of the foyer, you see the oak-panelled interior and the auditorium's shape, and I describe how the building was designed to look like an iceberg tilting out of the water.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Oslo: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Waffles (vafler) and Grünerløkka, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
