The giant ficus trees of Piazza Marina
Highlights
- Giant ficus trees in a city square
- Greenery that surprises most visitors
- A quiet corner of the old town
- Historic facades framing the piazza
- A different side of central Palermo
About this tour
This session looks at Piazza Marina, centred on its giant ficus trees, whose size and spread surprise most people who associate Palermo with churches and markets rather than greenery. You see the trees up close and the square they shade. The camera stays on the public square throughout.
I spend most of the time under the trees themselves, since the scale only really comes across close up, before pulling back for a wider view of the square. I take questions throughout and send a short note on the trees afterwards.
It suits anyone who wants a quieter, greener stop between busier sessions. It also pairs naturally with a Kalsa walk that ends nearby.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Palermo before heading out.
-
The old ficus trees 15 min
The camera looks up into the branches of the piazza's giant ficus trees, and I explain how their size surprises most visitors who expect Palermo's greenery to be smaller.
-
The square around them 15 min
Pulling back, you see the square framed by the trees on one side and historic buildings on the other, and I point out a few of the buildings' facades.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Palermo: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Panelle and Kalsa, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 7 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
