About this tour

This call shares stories from Teatro Massimo that do not usually come up on a shorter visit, including the staircase's brief moment in film history and details I picked up working front of house at the theatre. You hear about the building rather than only seeing it, since the call focuses on stories rather than a walk. It stays centred on this one building throughout.

I talk through each story in turn, checking in for questions as I go, and I am happy to follow whichever thread interests you most. Towards the end I send a short note with a few names and dates mentioned.

It suits anyone who has already seen the theatre and wants the stories behind it, or anyone who prefers a conversation over a walking session. It works well as a shorter add-on to another Palermo session.

  • Honest tips on where to eat, stay and what to skip
  • A short follow-up note with every place mentioned

Itinerary

  1. Hello, and what you want to know 5 min

The guide calls you and asks what you are after: planning Palermo, recommendations, or just questions.

  2. The staircase and its film history 15 min

On the call I talk through the staircase from where I usually stand outside, describing the film crew who once used the same steps for a famous closing scene, and what changed about the square afterwards.

  3. Stories from working front of house 15 min

I then talk through a few things I noticed working front of house at the theatre, from the routines before a performance to details about the building most audience members never ask about.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Ask anything that is still on your mind, there is no fixed script.

  5. A written note after the call 3 min

You get a short follow-up message with everything mentioned, so you do not have to remember it all.

Good to know

  • A stable phone or internet connection, whichever the guide uses to reach you.
  • No app to install. You answer when the guide calls, or join a video call if you would rather.
  • Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The call is not recorded. Keep your own note of anything you want to remember, or wait for the follow-up message.
  • Have your questions ready, though there is time to think of more as you go.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
