Mercat de l'Olivar, market mornings
Highlights
- What is genuinely in season
- A grower's own handwritten signs
- A fishmonger's pick for tonight
- Produce beyond any restaurant menu
- A note on the day's best finds
About this tour
This session walks the halls of Mercat de l'Olivar, from the fruit and vegetable stalls to the seafood counters at one end. You see what is genuinely in season that week and hear a fishmonger's own pick for the night. It gives a clearer sense of island produce than any restaurant menu can.
I move slowly between stalls so you can see the produce clearly, then pause longer at counters where a vendor is willing to talk. Questions usually come from what you see on the tables rather than anything I plan in advance. Afterwards I send a short note on what looked best that day.
This suits anyone curious about where Mallorcan food actually comes from before eating out or cooking. It also works well early in a trip, before you have chosen where to eat.
Included
- Live video session with a local guide
- A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Palma de Mallorca before heading out.
-
Fruit and vegetable hall 21 min
You see stalls stacked with whatever is actually in season on the island that week, not shipped in from elsewhere. I point out a fruit seller who only sells what she grows herself, easy to spot by the handwritten signs.
-
Seafood counters 21 min
The counters run the length of one side of the hall, with the catch changing depending on the boats that came in. I ask a fishmonger what he would cook tonight with whatever looks best, a question that gets a different answer every visit.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Palma de Mallorca: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Arròs brut and Santa Catalina, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 7 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
