About this tour
This session follows Canal Saint-Martin on a slow afternoon walk, from the iron footbridges near the centre out to the wide water of Bassin de la Villette. You see the facade of Hotel du Nord, the bookshops along Quai de Valmy, and the old warehouses at the far end. If a barge is due, the guide times the walk to catch it working through a lock.
After a brief sound check, the walk moves along the canal at an easy pace, stopping at each bridge and shopfront the guide wants to point out. Questions come at the end, along with a short list of the shops and cafes mentioned along the way.
This suits anyone drawn to the quieter, more residential side of Paris rather than the main monuments. It also suits those who want a slow, unhurried hour rather than a checklist of sights.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Paris before heading out.
-
The canal footbridges 21 min
The camera follows the iron footbridges and locks along Canal Saint-Martin, where boats still rise and fall through the gates. If the timing works, you watch one pass through a lock.
-
Hotel du Nord 21 min
The guide stops outside Hotel du Nord, the building that lent its name to the French film shot along this stretch of canal, its sign still hanging over the water.
-
Bassin de la Villette 21 min
At Bassin de la Villette, the canal widens between old warehouses turned into cinemas and bars. The guide points along Quai de Valmy, past the independent bookshops passed on the way here.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Paris: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Escargot and Latin Quarter, worth a slower look.

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
