Yasmine Haddad

Born in Belleville, parents from Oran, still living three streets from the flat I grew up in. I studied geography at Paris 8 and did my master's thesis on the walls of the 20th arrondissement, meaning the painted ones. Rue Dénoyez, the stairs of Rue des Cascades, the shutters that change every month. I know a lot of the painters and I will tell you who did what, when the city tolerates it and when it sends a cleaning truck. Belleville is also the second Chinatown of Paris, a Maghrebi market street, a working-class hill and a place where rents have doubled. I show all of it without the romance. In the evenings I run a bar walk around Oberkampf with a friend who bartends, and in summer a slow afternoon along the Canal Saint-Martin. I speak French, English and Arabic.
