About this tour

This session walks medieval Paris across Île de la Cité and into the Latin Quarter, from Notre-Dame and the old canons' quarter to Sainte-Chapelle and the Conciergerie. You see the twisted pillar inside Saint-Séverin and the student streets around the Sorbonne on Rue de la Harpe. It traces the city's oldest core, cathedral to university.

The guide opens with a sound check, then walks from the island into the Latin Quarter, stop by stop, pointing out what has survived since the medieval period. Questions come in live, and a short list of what was covered follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone who wants Notre-Dame and its restoration explained properly. It also suits viewers interested in how the university quarter grew up around the cathedral.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Paris before heading out.

  2. Notre-Dame exterior 21 min

The camera takes in Notre-Dame from outside, reopened in December 2024 after the 2019 fire. The guide points out what changed in the restoration, then walks into the old canons' quarter on Rue Chanoinesse behind the cathedral.

  3. Sainte-Chapelle and the Conciergerie 21 min

From outside, the camera takes in Sainte-Chapelle and the Conciergerie side by side on Île de la Cité. The guide explains what each building was originally built for, long before either became the tourist stop it is today.

  4. Saint-Séverin and the Sorbonne 21 min

Inside Saint-Séverin, the camera follows the twisted central pillar in the ambulatory, a detail unlike anything else in Paris. The guide finishes on Rue de la Harpe, tracing the student streets that grew up around the Sorbonne.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Paris: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Crêpes and Montmartre, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
