I hold the carte professionnelle of a conférencière and a doctorate in medieval history from the Sorbonne, which mostly means I have spent too many hours in archives reading property deeds. That is where the good stories are. Who owned the hôtel particulier on Rue des Francs-Bourgeois in 1650, who lost it in the Revolution, and which family still runs the bakery downstairs. I have lived in the Marais for fifteen years, first in a chambre de bonne under the roof and now in a flat on Rue de Turenne, and I walk its streets every morning before the shops open. My tours are precise and quite dense. I give dates, I show you old maps on a tablet, and I correct the legends you will read on the plaques when they are wrong. I speak French, English and German. I ask for punctuality, and in return I finish on time. If a question needs a longer answer, I send it by email the same evening. My sessions now run live on video from Paris: I carry the phone, you watch from wherever you are and ask anything.
