About this tour

This session uses Père Lachaise to trace a slice of the city's own history, from the Mur des Fédérés and its role at the end of the 1871 Commune to the cemetery's main avenue. Paul explains how who was buried here, and how, shifted along with the city's own social history. The walk treats the cemetery as a historical record rather than only a resting place.

Paul opens at the wall with a short, respectful sound check. He walks at a formal pace along the main avenue, answering questions about the Commune and the cemetery's history as they arrive, and sends a short summary once the call ends.

It suits anyone with a serious interest in nineteenth-century Parisian history. It also works well for viewers who prefer a quieter, more reflective walk.

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Paris before heading out.

At this quiet stretch of wall, Paul explains its role at the end of the Paris Commune in 1871, one of the most significant events in the city's nineteenth-century history.

  3. Avenue Principale 21 min

Walking the cemetery's main avenue, Paul explains how burial here became, over two centuries, a marker of the city's changing social history.

Time to ask anything about Paris: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Escargot and Latin Quarter, worth a slower look.

  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
