The oldest square in Paris, shopfront by shopfront
Highlights
- A seventeenth-century layout copied across Europe
- Small food shops known from the inside
- One of the oldest planned squares in Europe
- A guide's own years behind the counter
- History and good shopping on one short walk
About this tour
This call covers Place des Vosges, one of the oldest planned squares in Europe, and the small food shops on nearby Rue de Turenne. Vincent explains how the square's seventeenth-century layout influenced planned squares built long after it. He then walks to shopfronts he knows personally from years working in one of them.
Vincent opens in the square with a short sound check. He walks at a brisk, direct pace toward the shops, answering questions about the square's history and the shops' specialities as they arrive, and sends a short list afterwards.
It suits anyone interested in urban planning history as much as good food shopping. It also works well paired with a wider walk through Le Marais.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
