  • A quieter approach around the building's side
  • Self-cleaning stone explained up close
  • Montmartre's dome, without the busiest route

About this tour

This session covers Sacré-Cœur from outside, starting on the steps below its white dome and finishing on the quieter approach around the side of the building. Isabelle explains the self-cleaning stone that keeps the basilica bright rather than soot-stained. The walk avoids the busiest route up the hill without missing the view.

Isabelle opens on the steps with a short sound check looking out over the city. She walks at a steady pace around the building's side, answering questions about the basilica's construction as they come, and sends a short note on quieter viewing times once the call ends.

It suits anyone who wants the view and the history without the main crowd. It also works well as a lead-in to the painters' square nearby.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Paris before heading out.

  2. Sacré-Cœur steps 21 min

From the steps below the basilica, the camera takes in the full white dome, and Isabelle explains why the stone here whitens with age rather than darkening like most Parisian buildings.

  3. Place du Tertre approach 21 min

Walking around the side of the basilica, Isabelle points out the quieter approach most visitors miss, arriving at the painters' square from behind rather than through the main crowd.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Paris: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Steak frites and Le Marais, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
