The bell tower and the quiet cloister
Highlights
- A bell tower modelled on Venice's Campanile
- A cloister silent beside a busy waterfront
- Two settings, two different kinds of stillness
- Venetian and Slovene styles seen side by side
- A hilltop church paired with a hidden courtyard
About this tour
This session moves from the hilltop bell tower at St George's to the quiet cloister of the Minorite Monastery near the marina. You see a tower deliberately modelled on Venice's Campanile, then a courtyard built to stay separate from the noise just outside its walls. It stays inside these two settings throughout.
I move slowly through each space, pause in the cloister to let the quiet register on screen, and answer questions about either building's history as they come up.
This suits anyone with an interest in church or monastic architecture. It also suits viewers who want a quieter contrast to the busier harbour sessions.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Piran before heading out.
-
Cathedral of St George 21 min
You see the freestanding bell tower built in imitation of the Campanile in Venice, and I explain how closely the two towers were meant to resemble each other despite standing in different countries.
-
Minorite Monastery Cloister 21 min
The camera moves into the monastery's quiet cloister near the marina, and I describe how this enclosed courtyard stays almost silent even when the waterfront outside is at its busiest.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Piran: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Piran sea salt-cured produce and The Marina, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Ljubljana time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
