About this tour

This session follows Avenida dos Aliados, the wide boulevard that reshaped central Porto in the early 20th century. Marisa explains why the symmetrical layout deliberately echoes Parisian boulevards of the same period. The session finishes at the city hall, whose clock tower closes the avenue's view.

Marisa keeps an easy pace down the avenue's centre, checking the picture stays level along its full length. She answers questions about the buildings lining the boulevard as they come up. A short note on what stood here before the avenue follows the session.

This suits anyone interested in urban planning and Porto's more modern face, distinct from the medieval old town. It also works well as an introduction before other sessions in the historic centre.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Porto before heading out.

  2. The wide boulevard 15 min

The camera follows the length of Avenida dos Aliados, its symmetrical buildings and central gardens laid out in the early 20th century. Marisa explains why the design deliberately echoes Parisian boulevards.

  3. City Hall's facade 15 min

At the avenue's top, the city hall's clock tower closes the view. Marisa points out the granite detailing and explains what the building replaced when it was constructed.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Porto: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Port wine and Ribeira, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
