The Chinese House and the park's garden pavilions
Highlights
- Gilded figures imagined, not observed
- A clover-shaped garden pavilion
- Smaller buildings for a royal family's day
- Chinoiserie built entirely in Prussia
- Sanssouci's quieter garden corners
About this tour
This session looks at two of Sanssouci Park's garden pavilions, from the clover-shaped Chinese House to a quieter building nearby. You see the gilded figures in Chinese dress set around the pavilion's columns, made without any of the craftsmen ever having travelled east. The session finishes at a smaller pavilion, one of several built so the royal family could use different corners of the park through the day.
We start with a short sound check outside the Chinese House. I circle the building slowly so you can see the figures from several angles, then move on to the second pavilion for questions. Afterwards I send a short note on the two buildings and their original uses.
This suits anyone curious about eighteenth-century taste for imagined foreign styles. It also works well alongside a longer walk through the main park.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
