The Havel lakes from Babelsberg Park
Highlights
- A lakeside path built to reveal water slowly
- A Gothic-revival palace above the Havel
- A quiet cove at the walk's end
- Potsdam's chain of lakes, explained
- A calmer side of the palace town
About this tour
This session follows the Havel shoreline through Babelsberg Park, from the lakeside paths to the Gothic-revival palace above the water and a quiet cove further along. You see how the paths were laid out to reveal the water gradually rather than all at once. The walk finishes at the cove, looking out over the wider chain of lakes the river forms here.
We open with a short sound check by the water, since it can be breezy along the shore. I keep an easy pace along the path and pause at the palace and the cove for as long as questions need. Afterwards I send a short note on the park's design and the lake chain.
This suits anyone who wants a calmer, more natural side of Potsdam away from the main palaces. It also works well early in the morning when the water is quiet.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Potsdam before heading out.
-
Babelsberg Park shoreline 17 min
The camera follows a lakeside path through the park, and I point out how the paths were laid out to open and close the view of the water in turns.
-
Babelsberg Palace exterior 17 min
We pass the Gothic-revival palace above the water, and I explain why it was built to look like an English country house rather than a Prussian residence.
-
A quiet cove on the Havel 17 min
The route ends at a small cove, and I point out the wider chain of lakes that the river forms as it runs through the town.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Potsdam: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Königsberger Klopse (meatballs in caper sauce) and Babelsberg, worth a slower look.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
