Poznan Cathedral, where Poland began
Highlights
- The oldest cathedral in Poland
- Where the Polish state is said to begin
- The resting place of Mieszko I and Bolesław I
- Older layers found beneath the building
- The real starting point, not just a church
About this tour
This session covers Poznan Cathedral in some depth, from its nave through to the chapel holding the remains of Mieszko I and Bolesław I. You see the cathedral's scale, the royal chapel specifically, and hints of the older layers found beneath the current building. It treats the cathedral as the real starting point of Polish history rather than just another church.
I start with a sound check inside the nave, then move to the royal chapel before finishing outside with the archaeological layers. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short reading list afterwards on the early Piast rulers.
This suits anyone with a serious interest in early Polish history. It also works well as a first session before the wider Ostrów Tumski walk.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
